Magaliesburg

A trip up the cable way to the top of the Magliesburg range makes a pleasant days outing. The whole cable way system has been completely re-furbished and re opened in July this year.

The cable way has become quite popular very quickly. We had to wait in a queue for about 1 hour before it was our turn to travel to the top. Once we arrived we were treated with a wonderful view of the Hartebeespoort dam which can be seen in the picture above.

The site is located about 40 kilometers west of Pretoria and about 70 kilometers from Johannesburg. On a clear day one can see both cities and prominent landmark buildings. It was a lovely clear day on this trip and we were able to see the highrise building of Johannesburg and Sandton.

It is also popular for paragliders that launch from this location. The then stay aloft for hours by using the air currents and updraughts.
